Carolyn Blogs on Latin Bites Cafe
They had followed Chef Castre from a previous location in Houston. The Chef, Roberto Castre knew at age thirteen that becoming a chef would be his life's passion and journey. The restaurant was packed and additionally, I noted a lovely terrace which would be great for Sunday brunch. There were so many culinary visions floating above on the waiters' trays which were exquisitely prepared. When it came time to look at the menu, we all thought it would be challenging deciding on what to try. You could see the creative planning that went into producing the menu Roberto was going to serve to his guests. While we were making a decision on what to order, we each chose a different variation of Pisco- Sour, Tini and Politian. The wine list offered great selections. On the menu, we could see the various types of Cebiche, which is a typical Peruvian appetizer and takes on the name of the fish that is part of the dish. We had a wonderful chicken and rice dish, a potato and lamb offering with corn and fried yucca, and to top it off, the picarones and a meringue dessert. That meringue had great peaks! I would say, at 31, Chef Roberto Castre is off to a great start! His Latin Bites Café reflects his culture and the diversity of his native Peruvian cuisine. For an international experience, I highly recommend extending a welcome to this new and unique restaurant.
